Tips for Getting Ahead
Saturday:
Print out all the recipes for the week.
Click on the link provided and add all the groceries to your cart for the store you would like to get groceries from.
Look through the meal plan table at the items provided in the cart and the presumed pantry items. If you do not have a pantry item make sure to add it to your cart.
Add any other groceries to your online cart that you need for the week (cereal, deli meat, bread, milk, etc).
Schedule a time to pick up your groceries tomorrow or have them delivered.
Read through the recipes and the “Getting Ahead Tips” to prepare for the week.
Sunday:
Get Monday’s crock pot meal ready: Slow Cooker Chicken
Set an alarm to remind yourself to turn the crockpot on in the morning!
Prep vegetables for the week (place all in labeled ziploc bags or containers:
Cut brussel sprouts in half: Label Monday
1/2 onion and 2 tbsp bell pepper, both minced: Label Tuesday
Cut broccoli into small pieces: Label Wednesday
Peel carrots and cut into sticks: Label Friday
Freeze Chicken breasts for Friday's Crockpot meal (I will make sauce and freeze that with the chicken)
Get zucchini ready for dinner on Tuesday (follow directions in the recipe link to step 5). Cover with saran wrap and with a permanent marker label for Tuesday and place in the refrigerator. If you do not have room in the refrigerator you can always do this step tomorrow night.
This recipe for the filling is delicious so it is an absolute keeper! I personally alter the directions by preparing my zucchini slightly differently than boiling it. I roast the half zucchinis cut side down after drizzling them with a little olive oil in a preheated 400 degree oven for 15 minutes. I think roasting them imparts better flavor.
Tuesday:
Brown all 3 lbs of ground turkey tonight.
Take half and store in the fridge for meat sauce Thursday. Label the bag/container Thursday meat.
Leave half the browned meat in the skillet and follow the recipe directions for zucchini boats.
Clean baked potatoes. Poke holes in the potatoes with a fork. Wrap the potatoes in foil for tomorrow's baked potato side. Place in the refrigerator.
Thursday:
Get frozen chicken breasts out of the freezer and place them in the crockpot for Friday.
Make the barbecue sauce according to the directions and pour over the chicken breasts. Store in the fridge until tomorrow morning. Set an alarm on your phone to remind you to put the crock in and start before leaving for work.
